By L. Baldwin and H. Bradsher
What are symbiotic relationships?A symbiotic relationship is a close interaction between two or more organisms in an ecosystem. These relationships is found in any ecosystem no matter what.

Types of Symbiotic Relationships
|
Mutalism
In mutualism both of the organisms benefit from one another. An example of this is an plover bird and the African crocodile.
The bird cleans teeth of the crocodile. The crocodile gets clean
teeth and the bird gets food. Both of them benefit.
Here the bird is cleaning the crocodiles teeth.

Commensalism
In commensalism one organism benefits while the other is not effected at all. An example of this is barnacles living on whales.
The barnacles have shelter and get food but the whale is not effected.
Here you can see the barnacles living on the whale.

Parasitism
In parasitism one organism is harmed while the other benefits. The one being harmed is called the host and the other organism harming the host is called the parasite. An example of this is a tick and a dog. The tick eats the blood of the dog as food. The dog can become really sick if the tick is not removed.
In this pictures many ticks have infected the dogs ear. This is extremely unhealthy for the dog.

Why did we choose this topic?
We choose this topic because the different examples of symbiotic relationships are interesting to learn about. It is neat to learn how different organisms in an ecosystem live together. Some of them are really gross while others are interesting. Our favorite two are mutualism and parasitism. Mutualism is one of our favorites because it is interesting how two organisms can benefit each other while benefiting there selves. We also enjoy parasitism. It is crazy how one little organism can be so harmful to an organism. Symbiotic relationships can be found where ever you look. All you have to do is look at how organism interact with one another.

Commensalism
The fish use the turtle as protection. Other organisms will not try to eat the fish when it is near the turtle. The turtle is not effected by the fish swimming around it.

Parasitism
The parasite attaches itself to the spider. It feeds off the spiders blood and nutrients. The spider will soon die. The spider is the host and the other organism is the parasite.
